Larry Brooks broke the story that the Rangers have brought up Jeff Beukeboom to replace Ulf Samuelsson as their assistant coach for the defense. This is all the first time the organization has had a member of the Cup winning 1994 team on the bench.

It was believed that the Rangers were hoping to bring in Rick Bowness who Alain Vigneault has a very close relationship with, but he remained with TB. The Rangers still waited weeks to make this decision which leaves the move open to some questions, like did AV really not want this? Don’t take that as tension between the two, because it could just be that the organization really liked him working with the young blue-liners in Hartford like Dylan McIlrath and Brady Skjei.

One thing is for certain, Beukeboom brings something unique to the team. He is now the only person that knows what it’s like to win the Stanley Cup – as a New York Rangers. More importantly, he will probably pound into every defensemen to not leave Henrik Lundqvist all by himself with 3 opposition sweaters waiting to pound on him.

Good Luck Beuke, and Welcome Back Home.
