The New York Rangers held an extended practice at the MSG Training Center on Monday, after a day off to lick their wounds from an “unacceptable” performance over the weekend.

When asked by the media if this was some form of punishment for the terrible effort versus the Islanders, coach Peter Laviolette offered this answer.

“No,” Laviolette said.

The head coach mentioned he wanted to spend extra time on systems and specialty teams play.

Filip Chytil still out

One player that wasn’t at practice is center Filip Chytil, who’s been out since the Rangers first preseason game on September 24.

“I hope not,” Laviolette stated. “He’s out there skating (on his own). I’m hoping he’s ready. I don’t think it’s a long thing but we want to make sure he’s healthy going into the season.”

Laviolette really liked what he saw out of Chytil in the team’s first preseason game against the Boston Bruins but unfortunately hasn’t been able to see what else he can do.

The 24 year-old posted a career-season with 22 goals and totaled 45 points in 74 games last year.

The New York Rangers announced on Monday that goalie Louis Domingue and defenseman Mac Hollowell were assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack. Both players cleared waivers earlier in the day.

Domingue, 31, was signed to a two-year deal back on July 13, 2022. Last season, he posted a record of 22-12-8 with a GAA of 2.51, a .911 save percentage, and 4 shutouts. He will battle with Dylan Garand for the starting job in Hartford.

Hollowell, 25, signed a one-year deal this past summer. He played in 6 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2022-23 registering 2 assists. The 5-9′ and 170 lbs defenseman is expected to compete for a roster spot on the Pack.
