Rangers hold on for a point, lose McDonagh to shoulder separation (Jets 1 – NYR 0 S/O)

Evander Kane used all of his 6’2″, 200 lbs frame to put Ryan McDonagh into the boards. The Rangers captain went down in a heap on the ice. The look on his face indicated he’s felt this before and it wasn’t good.

Kevin Klein took a shot off his foot earlier (being called a bruise for now) and didn’t return. The Rangers basically played most of the game with just 4 defenseman. A game that went into OT nonetheless, where even 1 point was a triumph.

It was late last season when Ryan McDonagh was nailed high and hard by Alex Burrows in Vancouver. The injury caused Ryan to miss the final 5 regular season games before returning to the playoffs. It tool Ryan almost a series and half (about 3 weeks) to look right. According to reports he had no structural damage then, today he will be evaluated along with Kevin Klein to see the extent of the their injuries.

If both Klein and McDonagh are unable to go Monday, the Rangers will be in dire straits. That would put 4 of their top 6 defenseman out with injury or suspension (John Moore).  According to the rumor mill the Rangers were already hunting for an NHL caliber defensman, it should intensify now.

Names like Andrej Sekera of the Carolina Hurricanes have been bandied about, but the Rangers would need to make any deal fit into a tight cap space. Be aware of anonymous social media accounts I have already seen trade rumors involving star defenseman like Yandle and Byfuglein (now on RW). NY doesn’t have the cap space.

As for the game, it was decided on an Evander Kane shootout goal over Lundqvist’s blocker. After the loss the King had this to say about his defense, “It was a great opportunity for a couple of guys to get more minutes. I thought they played outstanding.”

The Blueshirts will continue a string of games in Novemeber where they will play 15 times in 30 days. It will be a lot of hockey for a group that is hurting and on the mend. Alain Vigneault said after the game, “we will deal with it tomorrow.” McDonagh and Klein will have MRI’s today, the Rangers will then take it from there.

FOR A LAUGH

Kevin Hayes was interviewed in between periods last night. You could tell the kid was a bit nervous because when the interview was over, he got up before Al Trautwig finished and forgot to remove the microphone. Comedy ensued and a laugh was had by all. Here’s our comic book stylized version of what happened.

RAGING RANGERS

1-4 – Dan Girardi, Marc Staal, Matt Hunwick and Michael Kostka were all incredible under difficult circumstances.

REELING RANGERS

I’m giving everyone a pass tonight after a bear down “all hands on deck” effort.
