New York Rangers defenseman K’Andre Miller has been suspended for three games after a hearing with the NHL Department of Players Safety.

The 23 year-old defenseman was assessed a match penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct after spitting on Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty in Sunday’s 5-2 win.

On Monday, Miller took to social media to explain his actions and apologize publicly to Doughty.

“I wanted to take a moment to address what occurred in last night’s game. I have all the respect in the world for Drew Doughty and what happened was completely accidental,” Miller wrote. “I would never intend to do something like that on purpose, it goes against everything I am as a person a player.

“I felt awful about it and I am thankful Drew gave me the opportunity to apologize and explain myself in person after the game.”

Miller, 23, has six goals and 30 points in 60 games this season for the Rangers. At this time, the acquisition of Patrick Kane is still expected to take place after 5 PM ET.

Earlier today, head coach Gerard Gallant said that Ryan Lindgren is still considered day-to-day and it’s questionable if he’ll be able to play tomorrow against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Braden Schneider will be recalled for tomorrow contest after being sent down to the AHL to accrue cap space for the Kane trade.
