Rangers ‘hate losing’ and look to even things up against Blue Jackets

The New York Rangers will look to rebound and get some revenge over the Columbus Blue Jackets, who stopped their winning streak at a franchise best 10 games.

On Sunday, a tired Blueshirts’ squad fell 4-2 to the Jackets in Columbus failing to separate themselves from the 1939-40 and 1972-73 clubs that also posted 10 straight victories. It all started when rookie Matt Rempe was shockingly humbled by Jackets’ tough guy Mathieu Olivier after he had basically run roughshod over anyone standing in his way. The tilt left him with a huge black eye and many thinking a rematch will be in order Wednesday night at the Garden.

“It’s cool, I appreciate all the support.” Rempe said Tuesday. “I was at a Cheesecake Factory last night and I was getting some photos with people, rocking the black eye, so it was pretty cool.”

New York Rangers vs Columbus Blue Jackets

The Rangers’ 81 points remains the best in the Metropolitan Division, however, their loss to the Jackets now has them two points behind the Vancouver Canucks for the Presidents’ Trophy. In addition, the second-place Carolina Hurricanes picked up three points and have narrowed the gap to five behind New York.

Overall, the Blueshirts are red-hot going 11-2-1 in their last 14 games just prior to the All-Star Break. The team is hoping a few days rest and a change of venue will help them rebound against a lowly Jackets team that sits 29th out 32 teams.

Despite where Columbus ranks in the standings, they hold a 2-1-0 advantage in the season series with the Rangers hoping to even things up in their final meeting.

“We hate losing,” coach Peter Laviolette explained. “We didn’t win the game the other night, so we need to reset and go back at it. Our team has done a decent job of that.”
