Rangers Practice Buzz: Mika Zibanejad and Brendan Lemieux expected to play Friday, Tony DeAngelo in for Brendan Smith

Everyone holding their breath can release a collective sigh. It appears that Mika Zibanejad will be a go for Friday on a new line with Chris Kreider and Alexis Lafreniere.

In last night’s loss, he went down awkwardly into the boards losing an edge. Zibanejad got up gingerly and decided to slowly head to the bench. There were several minutes left in the game, but Mika did not play another shift.

During the MSG Broadcast, Mika was in discernible discomfort. It was highlighted during the Rangers timeout as he sat at the end of the bench shaking his head and grimacing.

He and Brendan Lemieux did not skate today as both were listed as needing a maintenance day. If you recall, Lemieux blocked two huge PK Subban slapshots in a matter of seconds and had to crawl on all fours to the bench.

New Top Line? Tony DeAngelo in, Brendan Smith out?

Ryan Strome will center a new line with Artemi Panarin and Pavel Buchnevich. With the way Buch is going these days, he could be the spark the struggling center needs.

Tony DeAngelo also skated today with Jack Johnson. Brendan Smith skated as an extra with Libor Hajek. That should indicate who David Quinn will be scratching in favor of Tony D.

David Quinn stated he will make a final decision after tomorrow’s practice.
