The New York Rangers top pick from the 2023 NHL Draft, Gabe Perreault (1st rd, 23 overall), is in some hot water after an illegal hit to Michigan Tech’s Tyrone Bronte.

With a little over seven minutes remaining in the second period, Perreault lined up a prone Bronte for a hit along the boards. Upon contact, Perreault’s right elbow clearly caught his opponent’s head resulting in a five-minute major and a game misconduct. Although it’s unlikely, there’s always the potential for further discipline from the NCAA.

Boston College (No. 1 ranked) went on to defeat Michigan Tech by a 6-1 score.

“It was a battle right through the second period,” said BC coach Greg Brown after Friday’s win. “Unfortunately we lost Gabe, but I thought from Gabe’s penalty on, our level rose.”

The next stop for BC will be against the defending champs, Quinnipiac Bobcats in the NCAA Providence Regional Final. Puck drop is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET at Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island on Sunday.

Perreault, 18, has registered 18 goals, 39 assists for 57 points in 33 NCAA games played.
