Rangers prospect, Patrik Virta coming over this summer?

Patrik Virta

With Örebro’s elimination from the playoffs, Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet is looking ahead to next season. Virta is listed as one of the players who will not be offered an extension.

The reason given is Virta moving to North America to join the New York Rangers organization. The 2017 seventh round pick has played in Liiga, Mestis, CHL, KHL and SHL in the past 2 seasons and has impressed especially in the SHL where he finished the season with 10 points in 14 games, and adding 1 point in the 2 play off games where they were eliminated by Växjo Lakers.

Virta would be the 4th player from the 2017 NHL draft to sign a contract with the Rangers, following Lias Andersson, Filip Chytil and Brandon Crawley. The only unsigned players from 2017 are Dominik Lakatoš (CZE), Calle Själin (SHL) and Morgan Barron (NCAA)
