Rangers Roundup: Lindgren off COVID list, Shesterkin says he can be better, and more

The New York Rangers may have Ryan Lindgren back in time to face the Edmonton Oilers tonight at Madison Square Garden.

According to CapFriendly, Lindgren has been moved off the non-roster and assigned back to the big club.

Ryan Lindgren off COVID list

Lindgren, 23, has four points in 30 games this season with a +9 rating while averaging 20:21 per game. He was placed in COVID protocols on December 26.

If Lindgren is available to play tonight as expected, it will be interesting to see Gerard Gallant sits either Zac Jones or Libor Hajek, who has been playing with his partner Adam Fox.

Shesterkin thinks he can be better

Igor Shesterkin put on a show in yesterday’s 4-0 shutout victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

He made 38 saves for his second shutout of the season and fourth career shutout. In the opening period Sheterkin 18 saves while the Rangers opened a three-goal lead. He was helped by the defense that blocked 18 shots and held Tampa Bay star Steven Stamkos to one shot on goal.

“Shesty had an unreal game,” Rangers defenseman K’Andre Miller said. “Huge shutout for him.”

For Shesterkin it was his 15th win of the year and second shutout of the season. He is also 9-0-0 in his career when he faces 38 or more shots.

“After returning, that was my best game,” Shesterkin admitted. “I wouldn’t say anything in particular got better but I think I need to play even better than I did today.”

This season. the 26 year-old is 15-4-2 with a 2.09 GAA and .936 SV% which ranks 2nd in the NHL (minimum 10 games played).

“He was excellent today,” Gallant said after the win. “That’s what you expect.”
