Rangers Roundup: Recent tests put NHL Phase 4 in jeopardy, Adam Fox on Tony DeAngelo’s next podcast, Vegas and Vancouver for Hub Cities

The NHL’s July 30th date for the start of the qualifying rounds could be in jeopardy. After last week’s reveal that 11 players have tested positive for COVID-19 including superstar Auston Matthews and the shutting down of the Lightning’s training facility, we may have to wait longer for on-ice action.

Phase 4 in Jeopardy

I spoke with a league source this weekend about the qualifying rounds starting on July 30th. What was relayed is that is the date should there be no significant changes with COVID-19. It is important to note that the NHL, as well as other leagues are experiencing serious upticks in positive tests. The league also said they would be releasing the results of testing and depending on those numbers, Phase 4’s start time is in real jeopardy of being delayed.

Could Vegas and Vancouver be the NHL’s Hub Cities

According to Pierre LeBrun we should expect an announcement on the NHL’s hub cities this weekend. The list has been narrowed down from ten to six and all three Canadian cities are in the mix. The other three are believed to be Vegas, Pittsburgh, and Los Angeles. It’s been widely reported that Vegas has already been chosen as one and now it appears the league is leaning towards Vancouver as its other hub city.
