Rangers Roundup: Updated playoff odds, and more on Gorton extension
Good morning Blueshirts fans! The Rangers playoff hopes took a beating yesterday as both the Canes and Jackets won. Let’s take a closer look.
Wild Card Watch
The Rangers are 5 points behind the Jackets now with 2 games in hand, and 3 points behind the Isles and Canes with each of them holding a game in hand.
While there is still plenty of hockey left, the Rangers need to string some wins together in order to get back in it. Money Puck has dropped the Rangers to 14%.
Larry Brooks confirms
Larry Brooks has also now confirmed the extensions of Jeff Gorton and Chris Drury.
Gorton, who joined the Rangers in 2007 as a scout, has been the Rangers GM since 2015 after taking over for Glen Sather and is currently working under team president John Davidson. Entering Sunday, the Rangers sat three points out of a wild-card playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. That comes just two seasons after the team sent a letter to its fans asking for patience as it rebuilt a roster after an extended period of success, including a loss in the Stanley Cup Final in 2013-14.NYPOST
