Rangers Roundup: Zibanejad praised by countrymen, former Rangers coach passes, and more

Here’s the latest news and notes concerning the Blueshirts. Apparently Mika Zibanejad is being recognized for his great play by his fellow countrymen. Former Rangers coach, Tom Webster has passed away and more.

Praising Mika

Three Swedish players all agree that Mika Zibanejad may be the best Swede in the game today. Especially after his 5 goal performance prior to the NHL Pause. Victor Hedman, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, and Nicklas Backstrom heaped high praise according to NHL.com.

“The best Swede so far is in this call, it’s Mika. It’s been impressive to follow him, above all the five-goal game against Backstrom’s Capitals. That was pretty sick.”

Victor Hedman

“Mika’s been unbelievable. Even if I play on the opposite team, you are happy for him. That game was unbelievable. He’s been the best, carried the Rangers on his shoulders and leads them towards a playoff spot. That means a lot when you value a player.”

Nicklas Backstrom

“I have to agree with Nicklas and Victor, Mika has been fantastic. A lot of Swedes have been good, but Mika has been the best.”

Tom Webster Passes

Tom Webster was one of the youngest Rangers coaches under GM, Phil Esposito. Sadly, he had to resign due to an inner ear issue that prevented him from traveling with the team. He only coached 15 games in the 1986-87 season.
