Zuccarello the “Star”

It sounds like the Dallas Stars and Mats Zuccarello are in serious contract negotiations in hopes of avoiding free agency. The Dallas Stars players and fans fell in love with Zucc this past playoffs so this shouldn’t be a surprise.

I initially understood the hang up might be years, but a reliable source said it’s dollar amount. The Isles just signed Jordan Eberle for 5 years and 5.5M dollars, and that deal could be used as a comparable for the Stars.

If the Stars and Zuccarello can come to terms that means the Rangers will acquire Dallas’ first round pick in 2020. I have confirmed that the pick isn’t lottery protected. Should Zuccarello sign elsewhere, it remains a 3rd rounder.

Trouba Update

We reported earlier today that the Rangers are one of many suitors in on Jacob Trouba. A source close to the Blueshirts said that Trouba is one of the hottest players available on the trade market but the ask is very high. Additionally, anyone who wants him will have to pay the premium in order to land the 25 year old right handed defenseman.

Mark Easson is reporting that the Winnipeg Jets have given the green light to Trouba’s agent to talk contract extension with teams looking to acquire him. The Jets price starts with a 1st round pick and a roster player for Trouba.

Correction: The Jets HAVEN’T given the green light to Trouba’s agent to discuss contract extension. I’m sorry that this wasn’t picked up during the editorial process. If you clicked on the link the correct info was there. (Anthony – 6/16)
