Rangers Rumor Roundup: Grabner’s value, McDonagh and Nash updates
The Rangers have made their first fire-sale deal yesterday moving Nick Holden to Boston for an absolute haul (3rd rounder, Rob O’Gara). Here’s the latest out there today.
Ryan McDonagh

Per Larry Brooks: “(Jeff) Gorton has no intention of trading any of his available blue-chip properties — let alone Ryan McDonagh among a stable including pending free agents Rick Nash and Michael Grabner — for less than 125 cents on the dollar.” That’s the way it should be.

We know that Tampa and Boston are the most widely rumored suitors, but who are the other 3? Toronto was once tied to McDonagh, as well as Montreal so they could be in the mix. Dallas is another team that may make a big push for the Rangers captain too.
One major thing to keep in mind as I have written over and over on this site, McDonagh’s value should be bigger at the deadline, with the potential to use in a deal for the 1st overall pick.
Rick Nash
Nash has a ton of teams at least looking at him. Nashville, Columbus, and Dallas are the top three teams from what I am hearing. However, the Rangers must get back a 1st round pick and/or a top flight prospect for Nash. He literally is the type of forward that could put a contending team over the top.
LeBrun: “Five-to-six teams, I’m told, have begun to tell the #NYR, ‘Here are some of the pieces we could part with'” for Rick Nash.
To varying degrees: #Preds, #CBJ, #Stars, #NHLJets, #Bruins.

Michael Grabner
McKenzie: “Second-round pick and something is believed to be the asking price right now for Michael Grabner from the #NYR“
Five-to-six teams in on Nash. “Probably more than double that” interested in lower-priced Grabner.

I know many Rangers fans feel he is worth a 1st round pick. Bottom line is he is a rental with rumors of already wanting to return to NY. No team is looking at Grabner as the piece that puts them over, but more as a piece that solidifies.
