Rangers take on Golden Knights with a sense of urgency

The New York Rangers are looking to bounce back from a bad overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday. As they get set to host the Vegas Golden Knights, who beat them easily last week, the Blueshirts are focused to get back on track.

“We have to make sure we’re playing simple and hard,” center Vincent Trocheck said. “First and foremost, we have to go out there and play with a sense of urgency. It’s always good that we have a sour taste in our mouth after losing to them and getting a second chance.”

New York is 3-5-2 in their last 10 games, which has allowed the Carolina Hurricanes to come within two points of the Rangers first-place lead in the Metro.

New York Rangers vs Vegas Golden Knights

The Rangers have two games left before the All-Star Break as they host the Golden Knights on Friday, and then pay a visit to the Ottawa Senators tomorrow.

In the team’s last meeting against Vegas, they started strong but couldn’t beat Logan Thompson. Once the Knights got on the board with two quick strikes late in the first period, the game was essentially over and ended in a 5-1 drubbing.

“If you win a couple of games you can take some positive momentum into the break,” said coach Peter Laviolette. “We’ve got to be focused one game at a time and compete.”

The good news for the Rangers this time around against Vegas is the venue. New York is 15-6-0 at the Garden and have won three of their last four games played on home ice. The Rangers also have points in four of five games at home versus the Golden Knights (2-1-2).

  • Mika Zibanejad is 1 point away from 500 with the Rangers
