Rangers amazing comeback:

According to NHL PR, the New York Rangers three goal outburst against Ottawa in the span of 3:20 in the third period was the first time in franchise history that the team won a game facing a multi-goal deficit in the final six minutes (5:23) of regulation.

Road Warriors:

For the first time since February of 2015, the Rangers posted a perfect road trip with at least four games. They have also picked up their most points (8) through their first five road games since the 2010-11 season (4-1-0).

Hot Rangers:

Adam Fox has five points in his first six games of the season bidding for back-to-back Norris Trophies. Going back to last season, his 52 points ties him for first with Tampa’s Victor Hedman.

Mika Zibanejad is on a point per game pace with 1G and 5 A through the team’s first six games.

Igor Shesterkin remains hot stopping 99 of 102 shots for a .971 save percentage in his current 3 game winning streak. This season, his .953 SV% is tied for first in the NHL among goalies with at least 3 appearances.

Rangers Milestones within reach

Kreider, 30, has 351 points and need just one more point to pass Petr Nedved (351) for the 27th most points in franchise history. He’s 2 PPG’s from tying Andy Hebenton (63) for the 11th most in franchise history and 3 goals from tying Phil Esposito (184) for the 15th most goals scored in team history.

Mika Zibanejad is also nearing some milestones:

  • 1 SHG will tie in the franchise’s top 10 for most shorthanded goals by a Rangers player
  • 1 goal away from tying Bill Fairbairn (138) for 31st on Rangers all-time scoring list
  • 1 overtime goal away from tying Cecil Dillon, Butch Keeling and Brian Leetch (7 each) for the most overtime goals by a player in Rangers history

New York Rangers by the Numbers

  • New York’s opening day rosters was ranked third youngest in the NHL at 26.05
  • NYR PP is running at a paltry 12.5% (3-24), but scored a big one in Ottawa to start the comeback

Three Keys for victory

  • Avoid the trap of your first game back after a long road trip by keeping emotions in check and not trying to wow the home crowd
  • Ryan Strome back and on the first PP unit should settle things down and right the ship
  • Stay out of the penalty box. Calgary has some hot played in Johnny Gaudreau and Elias Lindholm coming in
