Rangers will hit the ice on June 8th for Phase 2

It won’t be long until the images of the Rangers on ice at the MSG Training Facility fill these pages. Late last night the NHL made Phase 2 official and it will begin on Monday June 8th. This will allow for players to get on ice, no more than 6, to start getting into shape. This is not the start of training camp which is Phase 3 and is not mandatory.

Inching Closer

Even though Phase 2 is voluntary, I’ve been told you can expect to see plenty of Rangers who are in North America get on the ice and start working out together. At this point, Rangers overseas are not expected to return for Phase 2 and some, like Henrik Lundqvist plan to stay in Europe until Phase 3 is set.

Phase 2, which begins June 8, allows NHL athletes to access team facilities, in groups no greater than six, plus a limited number of club staff, to train on and off the ice ahead of Phase 3, when training camps open. The NHL and NHLPA are still discussing dates, testing protocols, scheduling, hub cities, travel and more as it relates to Phase 3 and Phase 4.
