Recap: 12/8/16 Jets vs. Rangers

It wasn’t always pretty, but the Rangers managed to jet ahead of Winnipeg in a 2-1 regulation win.

Rangers Score First

The first Period showcased a bit tighter play than we’re used to in the last several games, though it wouldn’t last.

Rangers were first on the scoreboard when Zuccarello sent a beautiful feed to Stepan, who in turn passed to Kreider with plenty of room to bank it in.

Sloppy Second Period

The Rangers fell apart in the second, spending most of the period in their own zone on some very tiring shifts. The Jets were able to tie the game up on a rebound by Scheifele, with both Holden and Stepan in front of the net.

Third Period’s the Charm

With just a few minutes left on the clock, it was easy to imagine the game going into overtime Thanks to a high sticking penalty which resulted in a power play opportunity, Hayes scored the game winning goal with 1:09 remaining in the third.

Wanting to avoid a “…panic in the goalie’s head…” they did their best to keep the puck in the corners and along the boards to prevent Winnipeg from tying the game and forcing overtime.

Notable Injuries and Call-Ups

This win comes despite missing Nash, Vesey, Buchnevich and Zibanejad. To make up for the missing forwards, the Rangers called up Nicklas Jensen who played alongside Marek Hrivik.

Rangers take on the Blackhawks Friday night at 8:30, and you know where to find the recap after.
