The Reliving Rangers series continues as we go back in time to some of the best moments of the season. For this installment we recall K’Andre Miller’s first NHL goal.

K’Andre joined the New York Rangers this season after playing the two prior at the University of Wisconsin. The 6’5″ defenseman recorded 40 points during his time in the NCAA. He transitioned from being a forward in high school to defense and has excelled on the blue-line.

He had a memorable rookie season with the Blueshirts, but by far the coolest moment was his first NHL goal.

The 2018 first round draft pick was enjoying a great start to the season when he finally got his first NHL goal. On January 27th he absolutely blasted a shot past Linus Ullmark in a 3-2 loss to the Sabres. It was his second point of the season and he was leading the team with a plus/minus rating of +6 through six games at that time.

This goal from Miller epitomizes what we need to see more of next season. His shot from the point is heavy and accurate as he scored a few times with it. Whomever is coaching the team next year needs to try him on the point on the second power play unit to utilize that shot.

The 21 year-old finished the season as a top four defenseman as he forged a great partnership with Jacob Trouba. Miller had 12 points in 53 games while averaging 21:07 of ice time per game which ranked him 2nd this season among rookies. He led all first year players in blocked shots with 77, was third in takeaways with 33, and his 93 hits were good for fifth. Most importantly, Miller led all rookie defensemen in goals with 5, and his 12 points tied him for third in that department.
