The New York Rangers have their second line center after giving Vincent Trocheck a 7-year contract with a reported AAV of $5.625 million.

Trocheck, 29, registered 21 goals and 51 points with the Carolina Hurricanes last season. He is a two-way player regarded as Brad Marchand lite.

GM Chris Drury absolutely loves players that are hard to play against and Trocheck fits that description. One major plus that can’t be overlooked is his ability to win draws. For his career, Trocheck is 52.1in between the dots.

Trocheck has been a target for the Rangers dating back several years. The former member of the Florida Panthers played for Gerard Gallant when he was there, so familiarity certainly played into this decision.

In his 555 game career, he’s amassed 150 goals and 378 points. His best season came in 2017-18 where he notched 31 goals and 75 points in 82 contests.

The Rangers obviously went 7 years in order to lower the AAV but it’s also being reported that Andrew Copp, who is a year younger, has signed for the same amount at less years.

What will make or break this contract will be any trade protection. The Rangers need cap flexibility going forward and if Trocheck has a full no move clause this will be a problematic contract.
