Rangers land 22nd in FanDuel Sportsbook early odds for 2027 Stanley Cup

The New York Rangers finished 30th in the overall NHL standings for the just-concluded 2025-26 season. But FanDuel Sportsbook’s early Future Betting Odds for winning the 2027 Stanley Cup are a significant improvement.

The Rangers are 22nd among the League’s 32 teams at plus-6000. They are 12th in the Eastern Conference, ahead of the Pittsburgh Penguins (plus-7500) as well as the New York Islanders, Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings (plus-8000). The final six teams are all from the Western Conference and each is plus-10000 or more. The Vancouver Canucks, who finished last overall this season, bring up the rear at plus-50000.

The Carolina Hurricanes, the newly crowned Stanley Cup champions, have the best odds at plus-600, They are followed by the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Colorado Avalanche at plus-700, the Tampa Bay Lightning at plus-1000 and the Edmonton Oilers at plus-1100. The Vegas Golden Knights, who lost to the Hurricanes in this year’s Final, are tied for fifth with the Florida Panthers and Minnesota Wild at plus-1300.

Of course, it’s extremely early to think about next year’s Cup – the NHL Draft doesn’t begin until June 26 and free agency starts on July 1. But it’s not hard to see why FanDuel would move the Rangers up eight spots from their 2025-26 finish.

One big consideration would be injuries. The Rangers lost Igor Shesterkin, one of the League’s best goaltenders, for the final month before the NHL Olympic break. They were also without their top defenseman, 2021 Norris Trophy winner Adam Fox, for 27 games this season. The Blueshirts were 2-10-0 in the 12 games that both players missed in January and early February, dropping New York out of the playoff race.

There’s also the hope that Gabe Perreault will continue to build on a solid rookie season that saw him finish with 12 goals and 27 points in 40 games after being called up from AHL Hartford. Perreault blossomed in the final weeks of the season after being bumped into the top six, scoring nine goals and adding 10 assists in his final 23 games – a big reason the Blueshirts closed 11-10-2 in that span.

The Rangers also have two first-round picks in the draft, including the No. 5 selection. That’s not going to get them Gavin McKenna, regarded by most experts as the No. 1 overall pick. But they should get a prime choice, then can help revive what’s been a weak prospect base with the No. 26 selection, and nine more picks in the final six rounds.

Though there won’t be any big-name talents available when free agency opens, general manager Chris Drury has about $26.6 million available, according to PuckPedia, to go shopping for players who can help. That’s especially true up front, where Alex Tuch (Buffalo Sabres), Bobby McMann (Seattle Kraken) and Mason Marchment (Columbus Blue Jackets) should be looking for new contracts and would give the Rangers an offensive boost.
