The New York Rangers have released their prospect report for December 21, 2020. In this edition, the focus shifts back to European action. Once the WJC get really going, we will have more about the Rangers North American prospects.
Below are excerpts from the official report provided to the media via the New York Rangers.
New York Rangers prospect report: Nils Lundkvist leads the pack
- Nils Lundkvist tallied an assist/point in each of Lulea’s two games during the past week (two assists); he also recorded four shots on goal in 20:09 of ice time on Dec. 17 against IK Oskarshamn, and he posted a plus-two rating on Dec. 19 against IK Oskarshamn. The Rangers’ first round pick (28th overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft extended his assist/point streak to three games (three assists). In addition, Lundkvist has recorded an assist/point in five of the last six games (five assists), and he has tallied a point in eight of the last 11 games, notching 10 points (three goals, seven assists) in those 11 contests. He has registered 14 points (five goals, nine assists) and 69 shots on goal in 23 SHL games in 2020-21, and he has averaged 20:19 of ice time per game in the 23 contests.
- Lauri Pajuniemi registered a goal/point in each of TPS’ two games during the past week (two goals); he also posted a plus-one rating on Dec. 16 against Pelicans, and he led all skaters with eight shot attempts (five of which were on goal) in 20:51 of ice time on Dec. 18 against Tappara. The Rangers’ fifth round pick (132nd overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft extended his point streak to six games (five goals, one assist), which is a Liiga career-high, and he has also posted a plus-one rating in five of the six games. Pajuniemi has tallied eight points (six goals, two assists) and 56 shot attempts (35 of which have been on goal) in 13 games with TPS in 2020-21.
- Adam Edstrom recorded an assist and posted a plus-one rating in each of Rogle’s two games during the past week. The Rangers’ sixth round pick (161st overall) in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft extended his assist/point streak to three games (three assists over the span), and his three-game assist streak and three-game point streak are each SHL career-highs.
“I stay in touch with the Rangers and they keep giving me tips about parts of my game they feel like I can improve on,” Edstrom told Forever Blueshirts back in October. “I am still young so I’m just trying to improve everything at the same time as I’m trying to gain muscle and some extra kilos that I can use to my advantage during games.”
- Jacob Ragnarsson registered an assist on Dec. 16 against HC Vita Hasten. The Rangers’ third round pick (70th overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft has recorded two assists and has posted a plus-eight rating in 20 games with Timra in Allsvenskan (Sweden’s second-highest pro league) this season.
Zachary Jones living up to all the praise
- Zachary Jones notched a power play assist on Dec. 20 against Vermont, and he helped UMass win both of its games against Vermont this past weekend. The Rangers’ third round pick (68th overall) in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft has registered four points (two goals, two assists) in eight games with UMass this season. Jones has recorded 27 points (five goals, 22 assists) through 40 career collegiate games with UMass.
“K’Andre Miller and I hung out a lot during the WJC. We talked about how great the organization is and being part of the same team in the future,” Jones told us back in October. “He is a great player, great kid off the ice and gonna be one of the guys in the NHL next season. I got to learn a lot from watching him play.”
