All seven New York Rangers prospects were in action at the World Junior Championship on Thursday with Brennan Othmann and Will Cuylle strutting their stuff.

Team Canada absolutely lit up Adam Sykora and Team Slovakia in an 11-1 drubbing. They jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period thanks to the help of those Blueshirt draft picks.

Othmann was selected 16th overall in 2021 and is considered a surefire NHL player. Cullye was chosen in the second round of the 2020 draft after trading Lias Andersson to the L.A. Kings for the pick.

New York Rangers prospects shine at WJC

Will Cuylle scored the eventual game-winning goal on a breakaway as he snapped it through the legs of the Slovakian backstop.

He then added an assist on the next goal by setting up a future Rangers’ teammate. The big winger saw Brennan Othmann in his office at the circle, who had his stick ready to one-time it past the a helpless goalie. Othmann also added two assists to finish with three points on the night.

Not bad for a player whom the coach opted to scratch for their first game of the tournament.

Dylan Garand had an easy game in net. The agile netminder needed to stop only 22 of 23 shots for the victory. New York selected the 20 year-old in the fourth round of the 2020 Draft.

Miraculously, Adam Sykora finished the game with only a -2 rating. On a positive note, the young winger whom the Rangers selected in the 2nd round is living up to his reputation as being a relentless forechecker.

Not much has been said about Jaroslav ChmelaÅ™ since the Rangers drafted the 19 year-old winger in the fifth-round of the 2021 draft.

Yesterday, he made his presence known with a big hit and a sharp angle goal in Team Czechia’s loss to Finland in a 4-3 shootout.

After his board-flipping hit, Chmelar had the quote of the tournament so far: “I saw he didn’t want to change so I hit him hard.”

The 6-4 winger scored 18 points in 39 games for Joker’s U20 team. He will be moving to North America this summer to join the Providence Friars in the NCAA.

Kalle Väisänen, whom the Rangers picked in the fourth-round of the 2021 Draft did not register a point.

Finally, Brett Berard and Team USA moved to 2-0 with a 7-1 victory over Switzerland. The Rangers 5th round pick has yet to register a point.
