Nils Lundkvist wants to stay in Sweden one more season, explains decision to re-sign with Lulea

Promising defense prospect, Nils Lundkvist will remain in Sweden for one more season. Breaking this morning, Lundkvist and Lulea of the SHL have agreed to a one year deal.

Rangers prospect wanted one more year to develop

Lundkvist whom the Rangers selected with their third first round selection in the 2018 NHL Draft is now 19 years-old. He is coming off an incredible season where he was named the top young player of the SHL. And while there were conversation with the Rangers through his agent he decided that another season in Lulea was best.

“I’ve come to the conclusion that it would be best for me to stay another season in Luleå Hockey,” Nils explained about his decision. “This means that I will be able to accumulate even more experience until the day I go over (to the Rangers).”

It wasn’t just a pure hockey decision for Lundkvist. “Also, if you look at the state of the world right now, this feels best to me,” he added. Hard to argue with a nationwide pandemic and the U.S. experiencing a spike in new cases at the moment.
