The Rangers put in their second straight day of practice and look eager to hit the ice and take on the Red Wings at Madison Square Garden. Coach David Quinn made it clear today that regardless of the opponent they need to get wins if the playoffs are to be a possibility.
Big Picture
All players practiced including Artemiy Panarin who missed the last game and Ryan Strome who left early yesterday with flu-like symptoms. The Czar, Igor Shesterkin ready to start and Lundqvist in tomorrow at Detroit. Aside from that, Coach Quinn was asked about the bibber picture as referenced to the trade deadline and the future. His response was as vague as you can expect.

The Rangers have posted a 1-0-0 record (1-0-0 at home; 0-0-0 on the road), following their 5-1 win on Nov. 6 at MSG. Tony DeAngelo (one goal, one assist), Artemi Panarin (one goal, one assist), Ryan Strome (one goal, one assist), and Pavel Buchnevich (two assists) each posted a multi-point game in the contest, and Henrik Lundqvist made 35 saves to earn the win. The Rangers were 2-for-3 (66.7%) on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill in the contest, and the Blueshirts also registered a shorthanded goal in the game, as Greg McKegg tallied his first goal as a Ranger. Following tomorrow’s game, the Rangers and Red Wings will face each other on the following date: Feb. 1 (at Detroit).
- Brendan Smith played parts of six seasons with the Red Wings (2011-12 – 2016-17) and was acquired by the Rangers from Detroit on Feb. 28, 2017.
- Red Wings Assistant General Manager Pat Verbeek played parts of two seasons with the Rangers (1994-95 and 1995-96) and represented the Rangers at the 1996 NHL All-Star Game.
- Jacob Trouba is a native of Rochester, Michigan, and he played hockey in Michigan with Compuware organization, the U.S. National Team Development Program (2010-11 and 2011-12), and the University of Michigan (2012-13). Trouba was a Red Wings fan growing up; he lists Nicklas Lidstrom as his hockey idol, and the first jersey he ever bought was a Henrik Zetterberg Red Wings jersey.
