Rangers Roundup: DeAngelo speaks for the first time since being waived, David Quinn on Artemi Panarin injury, and game versus Devils on target

Tony DeAngelo broke his silence to Larry Brooks in the New York Post. It was the first time that the now waived defenseman spoke since his altercation with Alexandar Georgiev.

New York Rangers: Tony DeAngelo on how it ended

“Hockey-wise, there are mistakes that I have made. I’ve gotten hot-headed at times. I’m the first one to admit that and I take responsibility for it,” DeAngelo told Brooks. “I’ve tried to learn and get better and better at it, but there are still times where things have happened and emotionally I’ve gone over the line a little bit, and I accept responsibility for that. The thing with Alex, exactly like he said, emotions got away.”

Brooks also asked K’Andre Miller’s agent, Ian Pulver about the puck rumor. “K’Andre Miller was never part of any part of the Tony DeAngelo story at all,” Pulver said as he wondered why Miller was brought into it. “There were no issues between them of any kind. There is no reason he should be part of this.”

A longtime critic of DeAngelo, Brooks also reached out to Marc Staal about his former defense partner. Staal defended Tony but added an interesting tidbit. “I hear these things about him, and it’s as if they’re talking about a different person,” Staal explained. “The guys here in Detroit, they’re all super-curious about him.” If you recall, the Red Wings were one of the rumored teams interested.

After the story, I reached out to DeAngelo for comment. He did not have much to add as he’s focused on the road ahead. He was upset about the “fake story that caused a lot of problems.” John Davidson and the Rangers felt the need to address it not too long ago.

David Quinn on the struggling veterans and Panarin status

After practice, David Quinn talked about the veterans (Mika Zibanejad, Chris Kreider, and Pavel Buchnevich). He said the vibe from that line is frustration and their lack of production is not due to a lack of effort. They will continue to work at it.

As far as Artemi Panarin, Quinn is hopeful that he will be ready to go on Tuesday against the Devils.

Rangers vs Devils still on

While David Quinn is noting the Rangers have a game on Tuesday, their opponent is the Devils. NJ currently is on track to open their training facility on Monday which will keep the game on target.

We will continue to monitor the situation.
