Rangers Roundup: Jacob Trouba future captain, Tony DeAngelo situation, and more

I as well as everyone that discusses the New York Rangers has been talking about who the next captain will be. The conversation began in 2018 almost immediately after Ryan McDonagh was traded to the Lightning.

Names like; Mats Zuccarello, Marc Staal, Chris Kreider, and Mika Zibanejad were probably the most mentioned names. Some even thought the Rangers should’ve given it to goalie, Henrik Lundqvist.

Another name mentioned before has been brought to the forefront today.

Larry Brooks offers up the Rangers veteran defender Jacob Trouba to wear the C. In his latest column, he cites the 26 year-old’s work ethic, contract length, and leadership abilities as the reason’s why.

David Quinn has also been keen to point out Trouba’s importance to this team and his efforts to lead the charge in the Rangers 5-0 win over the Islanders. Rookie defenseman, K’Andre Miller has also publicly cited how helpful Trouba has been to him personally on and off the ice.

Trouba would be an excellent choice, but if the Rangers were looking at through that lens, Chris Kreider might be the better choice.

One thing is for sure, you can expect more discussion on this matter until the Rangers sew a “C” on someone’s shoulder.

What to do with Tony DeAngelo

The Rangers top scoring defenseman from last season was missed against the Isles on Saturday, getting only 1 power play goal on 8 tries. Adam Fox took his spot on the first unit and was good at moving the puck but lacks Tony’s shot and ability to get shots through. An underrated and often not talked about enough ability a PP QB must have.

At 25 years-old, Quinn needs Tony DeAngelo to take the next step and be a leader on this team. His unsportsmanlike penalty made him an easy candidate to set an example of for the team and hopefully get the message through.

According to the coach that’s been handled, but he is scratched tonight because the Rangers won the last game. So what if the Rangers win again? Does that mean the team’s best option to QB the PP will continued to be held out of the lineup? Hard to understand.
