Rangers sign Braden Schneider to AHL only deal, Matthew Robertson heading to taxi squad

Braden Schneider will head from the WJC to the AHL and the Rangers affiliate the Hartford Wolf Pack. This is the reality of dealing with COVID-19 delays in the CHL.

Rangers sign Braden Schneider to AHL only deal

The signing has no impact on Schneider and his ELC status which would likely be signed for the 2021-22 season. He could very well play the entire year with the Wolf Pack if the Rangers see it best for his development.

After helping Team Canada to a silver medal at the 2021 World Junior Championship. Selected 19th overall by the Rangers in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft he scored three points for Canada in six games, including a big goal to help them get to the Final.

Rangers likely keeping Matthew Robertson around…for now

Matthew Robertson is likely being designated to the taxi squad to start the season. He is waiver exempt, but it would be better for his development to head down to Hartford once the AHL starts on February 5.

The Rangers selected the promising defenseman Matthew Robertson of the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings in the 2nd round of the 2019 draft. He is a strong skater whose hockey IQ is considered way above average. His skating and transition game makes his play anticipation and ability to control the puck a huge strong suit. Robertson has already got the Rangers believing he will one day start at the Garden.

It would be a great idea to join him with Schneider in Hartford. There’s potential for them to be a future D-pairing on the Rangers blue-line one day.
